Bald Eagle, Immature

Bald Eagle, Aquila chrysaetos

The Bald Eagle is generally seen along coasts and large rivers or lakes, where it hunts. Its familiar white head and tail are not gotten until the bird is 4-5 years old; before that, the bird is mostly dark with variable white mottling. Eagles built a large nest of sticks and branches near the top of dead trees. Females are larger than males with a wingspan of 80 inches.
