Blazing Star

Blazing Star, Liatris tenuifolia

The long spikes of colorful flower heads bloom from the top down in late August. The blooms on this lavender-flowered perennial may be from 1-5 dm long, and the entire flower stalk 1-2 meters tall. Frequently found in dry pinelands, sandhills, roadsides, and clearings throughout our state. (Florida Wild Flowers and Roadside Plants, 1982)
