Black Ti-ti

Black Ti-ti, Cliftonia monophylla

The elliptic evergreen leaves of this shrub or small tree are 3-6 cm long, or about half the length of the compact raceme of fragrant flowers that bloom in late February. Black Ti-ti grows in acid swamps, bogs, and wet ditches primarily in west Florida and in only a few counties of other states along the Gulf.
