I have always loved this verse knowing how God provides, especially this time of year when the flowers of Easter are so full of life that promise a brighter future.
In addition to the wonderful music and worship service this Easter, we were greeted with the awesome beauty of brightly colored flowers and luxurious ferns. To create that breathtaking moment on Easter morning takes a lot of work behind the scenes. As much as I love Luke’s observations about how lilies grow, I know the Easter flowers on display in our Sanctuary took a lot of time and effort to get there.
Where did the plants come from? The answer is: Slay’s Nursery in Elberta, Alabama.
This time of year, Terry and her daughter, Taylor are found in their greenhouse nursery off County Road Alabama 95, watering, grooming, and counting plants, selling mostly to commercial customers. You will also find other family members loading trailers full of plants to be delivered throughout the southeast. We are one of their smaller accounts, but they treat us like family when we visit to check on our Easter Plants. The months of planning, growing and nurturing a plant to bloom at exactly the right time every year takes an incredible amount knowledge, dedication, and patience.
Terry always wants to make sure we are happy with our plants and asks how they looked. In our conversation with her this year, we just found out she has never actually seen any pictures of how we use their plants after they are delivered. We want to correct that oversight this year:
On behalf of Perdido Bay United Methodist Church the PBUMC Plant Committee, and all who have enjoyed them over the years: Thank you Slay Family members for your many of years of loyal service in the Nursery Trade in providing high quality plants to their customers throughout the South. You bring a smile to so many faces and give each person a way of connecting and experiencing God’s creation through the simple beauty of a flower.
